The purpose was to identify the extent and magnitude of the occurrence of uranium mines in New Mexico, especially those mines that have not been previously addressed by a tribal, federal, or state entity. These mines are prospects or property that produced or was developed to produce uranium. These mines are all, in effect, legacy mines and include mines that had verifiable uranium production, and that have been deserted, are no longer maintained, or are inactive. \n\nMining and Minerals Division (MMD; S. Lucas Kamat. unpub. Report, 2008) started with databases developed by the New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources and Dr. Virginia McLemore.  This information was supplemented with information from MMD files as well as other federal and state agencies that had collected data and conducted field investigations on uranium mines.  Information included data on geographic locations, mining methods, mining features, mining history, surface and mineral ownership, production statistics, approximate disturbance areas, reclamation activities, radiological hazards, post-mining land use, and regulatory / jurisdictional agencies.  Information on production has been omitted in this dashboard pursuant to the provisions of Section 71-2-8 NMSA 1978.", "summary": "Approximate locations of abandoned uranium mines and mills for purposes of remdiation.", "title": "aum", "tags": [ "uranium", "mines", "mills", "abandoned", "legacy", "remediation", "DRUM", "V&V" ], "type": "Map Service", "typeKeywords": [ "ArcGIS", "ArcGIS Server", "Data", "Map Service", "Service" ], "thumbnail": "thumbnail/thumbnail.png", "url": "", "extent": [ [ -109.044545, 31.754083 ], [ -103.399516, 36.845611 ] ], "minScale": 0, "maxScale": 1.7976931348623157E308, "spatialReference": "GCS_North_American_1983", "accessInformation": "New Mexico Energy Minerals and Natural Resources Department", "licenseInfo": "", "portalUrl": "" }
